Why a small percentage of people could receive COVID-19 after being completely vaccinated

DETROIT – As millions of people are fully vaccinated, we are beginning to hear cases where some still receive COVID-19 afterwards.

Here’s what it really means about vaccines.

Some people may be discouraged from getting vaccinated after hearing these stories.

It is very important for everyone to understand that these vaccines are extremely effective, but do not guarantee 100% protection. This is the case for all vaccines.

Because of this, there will be a small percentage of people who still receive COVID-19 after they have been completely vaccinated, but that does not mean that the vaccine has not helped them.

Ariel Silver is a busy mother and sales manager for a medical device company.

He jumped at the chance to get vaccinated.

“From what I read, it was like 95% effectiveness. So I thought I was good, “Silver said.

She received her second Pfizer shot in mid-January and continued to follow the recommended precautions.

“Certainly wearing masks, I distanced myself socially. I was still very careful, “she added.

But when her two daughters went down with COVID-19 in late February, shortly after she became ill.

“After I was completely vaccinated for six weeks and then to get a positive COVID test, I was shocked. I read that if someone is vaccinated with COVID, it is usually very mild symptoms. But for two days my symptoms were not at all mild. I was in bed, very ill, “she said.

It is not unexpected. In the Pfizer study, eight people in the vaccinated group had a symptomatic case of COVID-19, but it is compared to 162 in the placebo group.

For Moderna, 11 vaccinated people still caught COVID-19 compared to 185 in the placebo group.

And for Johnson and Johnson, 32 of the vaccinated group became ill compared to 112 who did not receive the vaccine.

“We should not be surprised that some people still become infected, especially if they have high-risk exposures, such as household exposure. However, what we should not expect are severe infections, because we know that vaccines are extremely protective against hospitalizations, “a doctor told Local 4 News.

Silver has returned to good health and still encourages others to get vaccinated.

The data show that vaccines are safe and even help protect against COVID-19. I could only imagine that I don’t have the vaccine and I don’t get COVID and how much worse it would be. I feel that it protects me against hospitalization and God forbid death, “she said.

Finally, all three vaccines are extremely effective in preventing serious illness, the need for hospitalization or death.

This does not mean that no one ever gets sick, but it does mean that vaccines do what we have to do.
