“The resignation of the interim secretary will take effect tonight at 11:59 pm,” the official told AFP, without giving reasons for the resignation.
Pete Gaynor, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), would take over the position of acting secretary, he added.

Wolf, who has headed DHS since November 2019, last week criticized the “tragic” takeover of the Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump, which left five dead.
The Secretary of Security asked Trump and all elected officials to “firmly condemn the violence that took place on Capitol Hill.”
Wolf said he condemns violence on both ends of the political spectrum, particularly that directed against law enforcement. In a post on the Twitter account, he said, “Now we see some of the president’s supporters using violence as a means of achieving political ends.” He said that is unacceptable.
