“Whiteout, brutal conditions” on I-70, closures in the Colorado Mountains, at the foot and east – CBS Denver

(CBS4) – Authorities have trouble keeping Interstate 70 open at the foot of Colorado during the state’s major storm on Sunday. Officials late Sunday morning announced that things were not going well in the Eastern Plains either.

As of 1:45 a.m., I-70 had weather-related closures in the following areas:

– Silverthorne east to Georgetown
– From Golden to Floyd Hill (on the border of Clear Creek County and Jefferson County)
– Airpark Road in Aurora to Limon

Colorado State Patrol officials said in a tweet that the conditions on Floyd Hill are: “brutal bleaching conditions.”

Some out-of-state drivers tried to reach Colorado’s ski resorts in the middle of a snowstorm. A family in Orlando, Florida, told CBS4 that they took a detour from I-70 and got stuck in the snow.

“We’re heading to Breckenridge for skiing. The girls had to use the toilet. We didn’t manage to climb the hill with the two-wheeled truck, so we went back and he put it in the ditch “, said one of the family members.

“What advice would you give to others if it was their first time driving in the snow?” Justin Adams asked on CBS4.

“If you plan to rent a vehicle, make sure it’s all-wheel drive, not two-wheel drive,” he replied with a laugh. “Besides, hey, that’s what it’s about.”

The family managed to borrow a tow rope and set off again. But they probably won’t soon forget their March ski trip to Colorado.

According to meteorologist Ashton Altieri, a Blizzard Warning, Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories continue for many areas of the state, with additional accumulation expected in all areas.
