What the Florida and Georgia senators said about their party line votes on a $ 1.9T emergency bill

The US senators from Florida and Georgia, like all their fellow senators, voted along party lines in favor of the $ 1.9 trillion COVID-19 bill passed by a 50-49 margin on Saturday.

The measure follows five previous measures totaling about $ 4 trillion that Congress has enacted since last spring and comes amid signs of a possible turnaround.

Here’s what the Georgia and Florida senators had to say about their party lines on Saturday:

Scott released the following statement after Democrats voted in the Senate to approve the $ 1.9 trillion spending package, less than 10% of which, Scott said, will actually help fight COVID.

Washington is completely dysfunctional. I have been saying all along that I want targeted help for families and businesses suffering from the pandemic. That’s why Republicans have just spent all night working with Senate Democrats to get something done that will actually help Floridians and Americans in our country who are still struggling because of COVID-19. But that’s not what the Democrats wanted. This was never about helping the American people. Instead, they are using trillions of US taxpayer dollars, under the guise of COVID relief, to fund their liberal priorities and repay their blue state governor friends. They should be really ashamed of this political theater.

“Our nation is in debt of $ 28 trillion. With the passing of this bill, Senate Democrats have raised the debt to $ 30 trillion, knowing they and President Biden have no plan to address it or its devastating impact on American families. With this pace and the direction the Democrats are taking us, it is impossible that our nation will ever be able to pay off this unsustainable debt without significant change. It’s time to get serious about what this means for the progress of our nation. I will never stop fighting to be accountable to US taxpayers and to control Washington’s insane spending. “
