A site and application monitoring service began Friday night, according to downdetector.com.
By Saturday morning, it looks like the issue has been resolved.
“We are looking for reports that some people need to log in again to access their Facebook accounts,” the company said in a statement. “We believe this was due to a change in configuration and we are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible.”
The mass disconnection was quickly followed by memes from users, as well as some conspiracy theories.
As users returned to the social giant, it didn’t take long for Senator Bernie Sanders to appear as people wondered exactly what had happened. Sanders memes continued to evolve over the weekend and seem to be growing in popularity only due in part to disconnection.
