Who killed Sara? It became the most watched Netflix series in the world in less than a month. With only two weeks of transmission, the series managed to position itself in the first position in over 40 countries.
Such was the success that the streaming company announced, two days after its premiere, that it will launch the second season on May 19, but what can its followers expect in the new season?
The creator and producer of the series, José Ignacio “Chascas” Valenzuela, spoke exclusively with Spokesman about the second production season.
“Season two is more intense than the first season. It’s more dizzying, more interesting, more surprising. The twists are even more impressive. The only thing I can tell you is that if they liked one, maybe the two will like it a little more, “said Valenzuela from his Miami office.
This new season was recorded last year in Mexico, at the height of the covid-19 pandemic. Valenzuela explained that most episodes in the first season were recorded in the last quarter of 2019 and as soon as the pandemic started, they stopped recording until they could resume calls.
“There were a few chapters missing from the first season when the pandemic came, and obviously Netflix suspended everything at that time to see what happened. We stopped for a few weeks. When we saw that we could, with great care, take everything back, it was taken over in a very segmented way. We rewrote even more scenes from season one and season two to make them “friendly”, without damaging the story “, said the Chilean writer.
Valenzuela pointed out that no one was infected with covid-19 during the recordings.
The series stars Colombian Manolo Cardona and Mexican Carolina Miranda. In this second season, three new actors are integrated. Matías Novoa (Lord of the Heavens), Daniel Giménez Cacho and Antonio de la Vega (Club de Cuervos, El Chapo). Eugenio Siller, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez and Alejandro Nones continue.
Likewise, Puerto Rican Luis Roberto Guzmán will continue in this new season, and José Ignacio Valenzuela highlighted the Puerto Rican’s work during the recordings.
“It’s the first time I’ve worked with him. I’ve been following Luis Roberto’s career for years. Of course she met him, not in person, but from there. He worked on the same channels he worked on, he made movies. The guy is tough. I admire him a lot, “he said.
Guzmán plays the role of an open gay lawyer, who tries to start a family with his partner, Chema (Eugenio Siller). Valenzuela pointed out that these characters represent a small representation of her personal history with her husband, who is Puerto Rican, and with whom she has a daughter.
“When I found out that he (Guzmán) will be Lorenzo’s character, I was very excited and the fan inside me came out. When we had our first meeting, I was nervous because I was in front of the Panther “, said the writer enthusiastically.
“The plot he made with Eugenio Siller is a very personal plot. It is a plot to which I put a lot of soul and a lot of experience. Both Eugenio and Luis Roberto gave themselves in their own way, so respectful, so realistic, so full of honesty that it is impossible not to empathize with that couple and that is what we wanted “, he added.
The story gives another season
Contrary to what one of the protagonists of the production, Leo Deluglio, said, Chascas assured that the series, inspired by the detective style of the English writer Agatha Christie, is for the third season. “It simply came to our notice then. In fact, this is a requirement when sending something to a streaming (service). In general, I always tend to think of a story arc that lasts at least three seasons. It doesn’t mean that the three seasons will be done, but I want to make sure that what I present has material to cut. I also want my bosses to know that if this goes well, there is a story to be told, ”he explained.
“I have no idea if it will be a third season or not. Most likely, this is something that Netflix decides sometime after seeing the two on the air. I will know there “, he added.
Meanwhile, the writer announced to this newspaper that he is already preparing another series, although he did not provide details. Similarly, he indicated that at the end of this year or next year he will launch another children’s book.
