Extremely complex contexts, such as those we have faced over the past 12 months, pose an additional challenge for managers, team leaders and decision makers in organizations: how to convey the resilience and balance of their teams to adapt – as much as possible. fast and easy to use‒ in a new environment?

Undoubtedly, the first thing is to recognize the need for adaptation and not ignore the basic elements of organizations: a learning curve is needed, highlighting adaptability through new schemes such as flexible work, redefining benefits and – last but not least – determination. .

We can say that the impact was different if we see it by countries, communities, industrial activities or economic sectors, we can say that it was uniform in the mood of the people, and one of the signs we saw was the study we conducted in Gympass, which shows that 35% of the total use of partner applications on the platform comes from users who have accessed emotional health.

It is an important signal for those responsible for managing talent in companies: the concept of well-being expands and includes an emotional dimension that is essential in terms of quality of life and health of employees.

I share with you four wellness lessons that leaders have learned throughout 2020 to take a healthy approach to business.

Focus on humanized leadership: Leaders understand that achieving goals and achieving the company’s goals is due to commitment, motivation, creativity, harmony between work and staff, communication, among other factors, which go far beyond a working day according to the established schedule. The leader who understands this will not only have efficient work teams: he will be able to create highly efficient work environments, which are the key to innovation and the growth of organizations.

Take a preventative approach to burnt: One of the adjustments observed is that remote employees work 1.4 days more per month than their office colleagues, according to a study – resulting in more than three additional weeks of work per year. Organizations have realized the importance of prevention and avoidance burnt of their teams and we began to notice that several companies have established programs to support disconnection, as well as provide digital tools to adopt new wellness routines with distance exercises, which can be from 5 minutes of meditation, healthy recipes, online functional classes or other options that each employee can choose according to what suits them best. This highlights the importance of using benefit-based health programs for workers and companies, investing in a better and healthier future.

Promotes a balance between personal and professional life: According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mexico ranks second in the weakest balance between work and personal life, along with the drastic change in routine, there is a growing interest in setting clear boundaries between personal life and the professional one, thus, even new regulations have been created, such as Nom 035, which allows the identification and analysis of psychosocial risk factors and prevention measures to promote a favorable organizational environment; in addition to the recent approval of the Labor Law reform for regulation home office and to ensure that employees have the necessary conditions to carry out their work from home.

Social distance is not synonymous with isolation: According to the article on “Work and the epidemic of loneliness “, published in Harvard business review, the feeling of loneliness and isolation is the main impediment faced by employees in carrying out their work activities, as it is considered a loss of social interaction, which can usually trigger collaboration or exchange of ideas or points of view. Therefore, leaders also turn to wellness programs and the challenges of physical activity – at a distance – to establish a moment of remote social connection, to support a space for self-care and to generate dynamics for a greater integration.

We were already facing a new paradigm of work, where the importance of the emotional salary was beginning to be highlighted, promoting a sense of belonging and generating a healthy work climate. In 2020, this trend has accelerated and now we see more and more companies interested in joining to be part of this innovation in the workplace, with which they increase their productivity, creativity and well-being.
