WellMed to reopen COVID-19 vaccination hotline on Wednesday to meet 30K appointments for first dose

SAN ANTONIO – The WellMed COVID-19 vaccination hotline will reopen this week to fill 30,000 appointments with the first dose, according to health officials.

The helpline is used for residents to schedule COVID-19 vaccine meetings at the Elvira Cisneros Community Activity Center and the Alicia Trevino Lopez Single Center.

The helpline will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Schedules for the first dose will be administered on the following dates:

  • Thursday – Saturday (February 25-27)

  • Next week Monday-Friday (March 1-5)

The telephone number of the helpline is 833-968-1745, and operators will accept calls between 8:00 and 20:00, starting February 24 and every day until all reservations have been booked.

Those who want to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at these two sites must schedule their appointment by phone. According to health officials, no accessories will be accepted.

Residents who have trouble reaching the operators are asked to keep calling and continue to be persistent, as the helpline is likely to have a high volume of calls.

If phone lines are overwhelmed, WellMed says you’ll hear one of two messages:

  • On a cell phone: “The line you’re trying to reach is out of service.”

  • On a landline: “All circuits are busy. Please try the call again later. ”

If you are cut off after the recorded greeting, officials say this also means that all operators are on call. If the call doesn’t go through at all, it could be a problem with your phone service provider, according to WellMed.

Currently, health workers and anyone over the age of 65 or 16 with chronic health conditions are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at this time.
