After two seasons on Cinemax, Warrior“Historical martial arts crime.” the drama whose immediate claim to fame is that his concept was originally developed by Bruce Lee – returns. Well, kind of: Rather than go back to the premium cable network that served as the residence for the first two years, Warrior will now switch to Cinemax’s streaming cousin, HBO Max.

Set in San Francisco since the 1870s, the series stars Andrew Koji as Ah Sahm, a Chinese immigrant looking for his missing sister in the middle of the infamous Tong War between Chinese gangs in the city at the time. Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan and a well-packaged crew of co-stars completes the cast of the show, sketching a nineteenth-century version of California waiting to explode due to political, racial, social and more tensions.

Warrior aired the latest new episodes in December; also has the distinction of being the final series to be produced at Cinemax before the network finally shuts down the original programming (at least in part due to the release of HBO Max). Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee—Which the executive produces in the show—issued a statement today on renewal and relocation:

WWe are excited and grateful for the opportunity to make another season and applaud HBO Max for understanding the importance of telling this story and for continuing to support this level of representation in our industry. All I know is that my father is grinning right now to see this show he dreamed of a long time ago, continuing to beat the odds. We all intend to deliver the same high level of meaningful storytelling and Gung Fu action in season 3!
