WandaVision brings back Pietro Maximoff played by Evan Peters

Kevin Feige has warned us that the Disney + Marvel series will have implications for the larger Marvel movie universe. And he kept his promise.

On Friday, the fifth episode of “WandaVision” arrived on the streaming service, bringing with it a major cameo that left viewers with a lot to think about before the sixth episode comes next week. The revelation not only has ramifications in the sitcom-based TV show, but for the entire Marvel universe … or should I say multiverse.

Now would be a good time to look elsewhere if you haven’t seen the latest episode of “WandaVision.”

In the fifth episode, entitled “On a Very Special Episode,” our FBI agent Jimmy Woo’s rape team, Dr. Darcy Lewis, and Captain Monica Rambeau come much closer to understanding the Westview anomaly.

Meanwhile, Vision, which is still part of the simulation but is now in the 1980s, is becoming more and more suspicious of the world around it. Neighbors have begun to act strangely, his twin sons are aging at will, and his wife, Wanda, as she tries to dismiss his concerns, only makes them grow.

As the newly created husband and wife are ready for a super strong fight, the bell rings. Wanda, confused by this turn, answers. In front of the poor is Pietro Maximoff, not just Pietro Maximoff.

Peter Evans, not Aaron Taylor-Johnson, appears on the other side of the door. The actor played the mutant Quicksilver in several X-Men movies, which until 2019 were owned by 20th Century Fox.

It is suggested that Wanda had not planned to bring her brother in her sitcom simulation. After all, only a few previous scenes Wanda refuses to bring back the dead puppy of her sons.

“You can fix any mother, repair the dead,” remarks a son. After the decline, even the crazy neighbor Agnes, who is believed to be shooting at least some of Wanda’s simulation strings, asked if she could do that.

This statement raises two questions: Is Vision dead or did Wanda (or someone else) bring him back? And did Wanda bring back another Pietro by mistake or someone else?

Both will likely receive an answer before the credits enter the final episode in just a few weeks.

Already, the audience got a look at what happened before the Westview anomaly at the beginning of the episode, when Wanda appeared on security camera footage stealing Vision’s body from a secret laboratory. And there are probably a lot of Easter eggs yet to be discovered that offer more clues.

So what about this new Pietro?

Before Disney acquired Fox’s entertainment brands in a $ 71 billion deal, the two studios struck a deal. Disney could use Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, but could not refer to the fact that they are mutants or children of Magneto. That’s why, in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, Wanda and Pietro derived their powers from an infinite stone and not genetically.

Eager viewers may have noticed during Friday’s episode that when SWORD director Tyler Hayward asked if Wanda had a nickname like some of the other Avengers, she was told she didn’t. Wanda has never been named Scarlet Witch in any of the MCU movies.

As for Fox, the studio was allowed to use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in its films, as long as it made no reference to Avengers. In fact, Peters’ Quicksilver goes past Peter and not Pietro.

In recent months, rumors have circulated as Marvel directors have hired some familiar faces to return to future MCU movies.

Disney has already confirmed that Jamie Foxx will return as Electro from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” which introduced Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. And Alfred Molina, who played Doctor Octopus during Tobey McGuire’s turn as the famous webslinger, is also confirmed to appear in the film.

Dr. Strange, by Benedict Cumberbatch, is also set to appear.

It has been speculated that other MCU characters, or even from previous iterations of Spider-Man, will join the cast, but Disney has not confirmed these rumors.

Pietro’s return in the form of Peters signals that Marvel is already on its way to exploring the multiverse. This was teased during the Comic-Con in San Diego in 2019, when Marvel announced that the sequel to Doctor Strange will be called “Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness.”

For strangers, the Marvel multiverse is just a fancy way of telling a collection of alternate universes. They have a similar nature to each other, but have slight variations. It is a very popular concept in comic books because it allows writers to reinvent characters and stories for new generations.

With Wanda already confirmed as part of the sequel Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange part of “Spider-Man 3” it’s no wonder Marvel is splashing breadcrumbs early. After all, the seeds of the stones of infinity appear in “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger” long before they are named as such.

The introduction of the multiverse in “WandaVision” works on several levels for Disney.
