Wanda Vázquez Amends Executive Order to Allow Sale of Alcohol on Saturday and Sunday

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced amended Executive Order 2020-087 in force against COVID-19 to Remove the ban on the sale, sale and sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays, and shops can be opened during opening hours, not limited to 20:30.

These changes are effective immediately.

“I have seen in recent days, thankfully, a decrease in the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19. Since the beginning of December, the number of hospitalizations has dropped by 30%, by about 200 fewer cases than a few weeks ago, due to the measures we have taken. This means that the hospital’s capacity remains at easy levels to manage and that Puerto Rico has fallen to a yellow alert level, for which we have decided to make the order more flexible in certain respects, removing the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages on Saturdays and Sundays. to operate within the hours of coverage, from 5:00 to 21:00, “Vázquez Garced explained in a statement.

He clarified that the state of coverage remains the same as the “lock-in” on Sundays. The occupancy rate in restaurants and other units remains at 30% capacity.

“It is important not to lower our guard, because we continue to be subject to the risk of contagion. But, just as we restrict measures when there is an increase in cases, we relax and observe fewer hospitalizations due to the virus, allowing for an increase in capacity in hospitals. We wish the well-being of all the people who live on this island “, added the governor.

The executive order is effective until January 7, 2021.
