Walmart shooting in Glenolden, Delaware County, related to opposition Darby: Police

DARBY, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – Police in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, are looking for an armed suspect after an altercation and a shooting at a Walmart in Darby. Police tracked the suspect back to his home in the Darby neighborhood and traced the building for several hours, only to find that it was not there. Police did not release the suspect’s identity.

“The subject I would say is armed and possibly dangerous,” Darby Police Chief Mike Sousa said.

Police say it started Sunday around 8:30 a.m. at Walmart on MacDade Boulevard in Darby Township, when the suspect and an employee had an argument. The two arrived in the lobby area in front of the store, when the police say that the suspect shot the employee with a single blow. The shot missed and no one was injured.

“From what I received at the store, it’s just a random act. These two didn’t know each other. It was the kind of verbal argument the suspect had with the employee, probably for a video game sale,” Sousa said.

Police say after fleeing Walmart he was involved in another incident in Upper Darby and is believed to have returned home to the 400 block of Main Street in Darby County.

Several agencies responded, including officers in SWAT equipment, surrounding his residence and blocking the street. Police now believe the suspect ran away from home before officers arrived.

“We used the emergency response team to try to locate the suspect. We can’t locate him right now,” said Chief Joseph Gabe of Borby Police.

Police seized two of the suspect’s vehicles, including this white Chevy Impala parked near his home.

“Either he’s on foot or someone took him,” Sousa said.

Walmart has released a statement saying it is cooperating with authorities and expects the store to reopen on Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
