RICHMOND, Virginia – Dozens of parents and community members gathered Saturday morning at Southside Plaza to gather for Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras.
“I’m writing the hashtag Keep Kamras and then I’m going to write for another four years,” said Richmond Father Richard Sebastian.
The group took part in a car parade through the city to call on the school board to extend Kamras’ contract for another four years.
“She did a great job. Just communicating, building community and really caring for children, “Sebastian said.” He has a strategic plan that we have never had before. “

“We feel that he has been present in all of these areas and has represented all communities and is working on all the issues that matter to parents,” added Pam Booker, another Richmond parent.
Kamras’ contract expires on June 30, but the school board has not yet made a decision on his future.
Half of Richmond’s school board members support a four-year extension for Kamras, while the other half are in favor of no more than two, according to the Richmond Free Press.

“He sends an RPS directly, to find out if anyone has a virus or something, and to go and take self-control,” said Latisha Erby.
Erby, who has four children in public schools in Richmond and helped organize the parade on Saturday, said she was pleased with her leadership during the pandemic and the decision to keep RPS virtual.
“I feel we should stay virtual, online. Even if it’s not easy, it’s safer, “Erby said.
She just hopes the council will make the right decision first.
“Come on Monday, I hope and pray that everyone will vote for another four years or more,” Erby said. “That’s what I team up with.”

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney has expressed his support for Kamras to receive a four-year extension.
The school board is expected to make a decision Monday at its special meeting, which will begin at 6 p.m.
As for students returning to class, Gov. Ralph Northam said Friday that school divisions should have a plan for personal learning options by March 15th.
