Voice actress Zelda Patricia Summersett talks about negativity and online criticism

Include voice action in The legend of Zelda the series has been a point of contention among fans for years; In the past, some gamers have criticized Nintendo for favoring the traditional buzz of the series over the fully realized vocal action, while others would suggest that the dialogue with the main characters would have removed some of the series’ charm.

But with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 2017, the series finally introduced vocal action on a scale that had never been seen before. While much of the game kept the dialogue of the usual on-screen text of the series, the movie scenes eventually gave characters like Zelda a True voice, with a variety of talented actors and actresses who play roles in many different languages.

Nintendo’s decision has always been going to provoke mixed responses from fans who had grown up with these previously silent characters, and while the voice acting in Breath of the Wild has dropped extremely well overall, it’s impossible to please everyone and some took the opportunity to make their feelings heard.

In an interview with Zelda Dungeon, Zelda’s English vocal actress Patricia Summersett talked about what it’s like to deal with more negative reactions to her work, talking about “more vocal” negative people online and how she feels about this role. in particular, he asked her to build a thicker skin than ever:

“At first it was harder to solve, because I was very sensitive to it and I just wanted everyone to be as happy as possible for such a big game. [Breath of the Wild]. You really have to keep this kind of thing in perspective or else …

“You have to be really positive about these things. I would say that negative people tend to be more vocal online, just by default – this is the nature of algorithms on the net and they need to get used to it. to build a thick skin, I think, with something like that. I would certainly say that my skin has become much thicker in recent years, since it took on this special role, just because it needs a thicker skin than some of the other types of failures or criticisms I have had in last.

As fans of gambling, we can all probably relate to these thoughts – it’s a fantastic hobby that can build wonderful relationships, but some Online spaces tend to suffer from the fact that people spread harmful levels of negativity. It is sad to hear that this job has apparently caused him more problems than ever before, but Summersett also reveals that there is a silver line in all of them – being able to channel these feelings when he repeats his role:

“There is something to be channeled in this, because that’s how Zelda feels and she does great, but she feels so forever and that’s her plate. I think it’s very relatable that way. Anyone who takes risks and tries to work hard on anything, you come across this. I really like her character, in general, the fact that they dig into that part of the story for her: what it means for her to feel like a failure, but she keeps moving forward and fighting for something bigger and for the benefit of all. This can be used as inspiration as the heroes are used as inspiration. “
