Villanova’s main guard, Collin Gillespie, came out of victory no. 10 of the Wildcats 72-60 on Creighton on Wednesday night with what coach Jay Wright called a “serious” knee injury.

Gillespie landed uncomfortably during a 6-minute game, remaining 38 seconds in the first half and immediately grabbed his left foot. He tried to lead her along the baseline after the game, but then left the bench and had to be helped to the locker room.

The school announced at the break that Gillespie came out of the match with an injury to his left knee.

“It’s serious,” Wright said when asked about the injury during his post-game interview with FS1. “We don’t know exactly what it is. But it’s serious.”

Wright later stated during his post-game press conference that Gillespie will undergo an MRI on Thursday morning.

Junior winger Brandon Slater started the second half in place of Gillespie and finished with 11 points as the Wildcats blocked the Big East regular season title.

Gillespie has been a starter for Wright’s team for the past three years, having played a key role on the bench in Villanova’s national championship team in 2018. He averages 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.7 decisive passes this season, shooting 37.4% of the distance of 3 points. .
