View some bright meteors from different parts of the island | Present

The observation of at least three notable meteors was recorded last night, culminating in a fireball (bright meteor) around 22:47.

The Caribbean Astronomical Society (SAC) indicated that the bright meteor was visible from all over the island, looking northeast. Some observers report that it showed a striking and colorful awakening, while others even perceived a sound.

“The detail that it made a sound is extremely interesting because, as we know, light travels faster than sound, but on several occasions a sound was recorded simultaneously with a meteor. It is known as an electronic meteor,” he said. said Eddie Irizarry, vice president of SAC.

He pointed out that it is a light sound and explained that sometimes some meteors emit very low radio frequencies, which cause vibrations in objects on the surface of the earth, which our ears perceive as a sound similar to a fryer or a flare, over time. what others compare it to the sound of “Christmas stars.”

SAC pointed out that last Monday, another bright meteor was seen from the island and pointed out that the bright meteor seen last night also came from the constellation Cancer.

“This means that it is related to Delta Cancrids, which produces some bright but meteoric,” said the educational entity.

The trajectory of the fragments that cause Delta Cancrids is somewhat similar to that of the asteroid 2001 YB5, so it is possible that they are residues released by this space rock.

The organization had anticipated that this “rain” of meteors could cause several to be observed by January 24.
