Videos of the attack on the FMLN caravan are already in the hands of the FBI | News from El Salvador

The Attorney General said the U.S. Bureau of Investigation is supposed to review all of the material. Authorities are trying to clarify that on January 31, two member activists were killed and two injured.

The prosecutor’s office has already asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for support for viewing all the videos obtained that recorded the murder of two FMLN militants on the night of Jan. 31 by agents of the Nayib Bukele government. .

Attorney General Raúl Melara said this morning after a meeting with representatives of the diplomatic corps at the
country, which has already requested FBI support to bolster the investigation into the attack on a group of FMLN militants, which left two dead and two injured.

“We are seeking the support of the FBI, as we said, so that all videos in the possession of the prosecution can be viewed and we hope that the process will go smoothly,” Melara said.

Last week, Melara announced that she would ask the FBI for support after President Nayib Bukele and national civil police questioned the prosecution’s investigation into the incident and said they were hiding videos confirming gunfire from the trailer.

The fiscal investigation revealed that it was not a confrontation, that is, there were no shots from the truck of the FMLN militants, but rather that there was an attack by Ministry of Health security agents and a motorist from the same portfolio of State . In fact, these have already been charged and sent to temporary prison by the judge while the investigation is being expanded.

In response, Melara said the videos do not show what the government claims happened, while regretting that police are questioning the results of the investigation when police investigators took part in it and found that a confrontation never took place. . “I don’t understand who they’re defending,” said Melara.

According to the petition against the three defendants, the head of security for the Minister of Health identified as Diego Alvarado Peña (who is a police officer appointed as a PPI) along with Roberto Carlos Coto, a member of the security department of the same ministry, got out and they fired on the militants.

They were accompanied by the driver of the Deputy Minister of Health, identified as Héctor de Jesús Castaneda. He is credited with shooting at the sidewalk.

Alvarado Peña was injured, but so far authorities have not clarified how he was injured, as the videos do not show a blast from the caravan and he normally walks to the vehicle to get away from the crime scene.

Alvarado Peña is admitted to a social security hospital where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the government. According to the prosecutor’s investigation, no one wanted to transfer him to hospital on the day of the attack to avoid getting into trouble, and there are also conflicting versions of the event by those involved.

Ballistic tests determined that the approximately 13 9mm caliber bullet casings found at the site of the attack match those of Alvarado Peña’s weapon and those found in the bodies of Juan de Dios Tejada and Gloria Rogel Delcid.

The attorney general said they are continuing to “refine the evidence” in this case.

Mayors and Fodes

On another topic, Melara confirmed that she was receiving representatives from Comures yesterday to discuss the issue of the government’s non-payment of the Fodes to the mayors, but did not go into detail or say whether she would take action in that matter , as requested by the Legislative Assembly.

“Yesterday I received a group of mayors representing the Comures who expressed concern
they have received another order from Fodes. I understand that they are going to send a letter to the Constitutional Chamber asking for a follow-up resolution to determine whether what the Chamber has ordered the Treasury Department to comply with, ”Melara replied.
