A video that is widespread on social media shows a Florida school worker slapping a female student on the floor. CBS Orlando partner WKMG-TV is reporting it happened at Liberty High School in Kissimmee.

The video, which was viewed more than 70,000 times late Tuesday night, shows the deputy sheriff forcibly throwing her onto a concrete walkway. Moments later, the deputy sees her handcuffed while a second deputy is standing over them.

The student appears to be motionless as the cuffs are placed on her, behind her back with her face down.

The officer is an employee of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, which said Tuesday night that it is collecting video and witness statements.

The sheriff also said the officer was “ in an attempt to dissuade the student from fighting another student in the hallway when the deputy sheriff took her into custody. “

The sheriff’s office did not release any information about the student’s condition, the school clerk who hit the student, or the deputy standing above them.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Sheriff’s Office policy says officers should “use the minimum amount of force necessary to perform official duties.”
