The incident started around 20:00 and two and a half hours later, firefighters were still working on the spot. The institution reported that the fire was brought under control around 10:45 at night.

Videos distributed by vendors showed several people inside the place trying to save goods and shelves; In addition, some claimed that the fire was in the “shellfish sales” area.

In his Twitter account, firefighters explained that they used all available resources in the western part of the country with the intention of controlling the fire.
“Due to the magnitude of the emergency, the event on Santa Ana Market is classified as a ‘level III structural fire’, given the amount of resources that have been used,” firefighters reported.

They also explained that they improvised at least one access to facilities with the intention of counteracting the fire from different sides.
Five motor pumps and a tank, among other vehicles, mobilized firefighters on the spot. ANDA also mobilized water pipes.

On January 4th At least 23 people, including two minors, were injured when a propane drum exploded in a fast food outlet located on 8a. Avenida Norte, in the northern part of Santa Ana Square, firefighters reported.
As a result of the explosion, three formal businesses and more than 30 positions installed in the vicinity resulted in considerable damage, the source said.
Preliminary investigations show that the explosion took place when the business was supplied with propane gas, but it is not yet known what could have caused the accident.
