Hennessey confirmed today that its Venom F5 hypercar has completed the first of a three-part development program. Basically: It goes very fast.
We are told that this first phase focuses on refinement, steering and aircraft. The F5 was sent for a few races on Hennessey’s own test track, and later at an old US Air Force base in Arkansas.
The team – led by chief engineer John Heinricy – downgraded the very turbo 6.6-liter V8 from 1,817 hp to just 900 hp, but the F5 still managed a speed of 200 mph. It may not sound like much, but 200 mph is still very fast.
Next on the to-do list: handling. “Our next phase is the most intense, focusing on the driving characteristics of the car,” said Heinricy. “We’ll split the tests between racetracks and Texas roads as we collect data, refine each element, and refine this hypercar monster.”
Chief John Hennessey also confirmed that almost all F5 models have been sold, and once the handling department is happy, the final stage is to reach 311 mph. “We have focused on delivering a complete hypercar to our customers who compete with the best in the world,” said Hennessey.
