Valencia is advancing in negotiations with Ajax for Edson Álvarez

MADRID – Valencia made another attempt to close the loan of Mexican Edson Álvarez, from Ajax, before the winter market closed, confirmed various sources for ESPN.

The contacts between the Mexican midfielder and Valencia have been satisfactory, but he still has to convince Ajax for the operation to take place.

Ché tried to take advantage of Edson’s lack of minutes to get a free loan from Ajax, but Ajax flatly refused. Thus, as ESPN has learned, Valencia is now considering offering an economic amount to meet the requirements of its coach Javi Gracia.

The operation will not be easy, because the Ajax sources consulted by ESPN ensure that their idea continues to be to have Edson until the end of the season.

Edson Álvarez would welcome a change of scenery after playing only four games as a starter in the Eredivisie in the first part of the season. Sources close to the player tell ESPN that at 23 he has to play to continue his progress and I think Valencia could be a good place to do that.

However, the Che team is in 14th place in La Liga and needs reinforcements both in midfield and defense, after a summer in which they released several stars, such as Dani Parejo or Francis Coquelin.
