Vaccine doses are rare throughout America as the UK strain emerges

Southern California has opened several sites to administer one COVID-19 vaccine that has become increasingly difficult to find. In Los Angeles County, health officials have warned that without more vaccine transfers, the county will not be fully vaccinated until next year.

As of Saturday night, vaccination sites across the country have closed their doors and canceled appointments as frustration escalates due to supply problems.

The vaccine crisis is coming as scientists are worried that a new, more infectious British strain could become dominant in the United States.

This week, Jeff Wilson’s Pittsburgh drug store delivered its last dose, not knowing when the state will deliver more. He said: “I asked for 1,000 doses and they could not give me any answer.”

In Texas, receiving doses is like playing the lottery.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have enough to offer every provider in the state every week. So we have to choose,” Chris Von Deusen told the Texas Department of Health Services.

The stock in New York dried up, and in Florida, where there were no rules to prevent temporary snow birds from being shot, the governor told non-residents to go elsewhere.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says I’m not getting enough vaccine. “We have places that can do more and we want to do more and we want to do more,” DeSantis said.

Vaccine super sites, such as Charlotte Motor Speedway, have contributed to the vaccine’s distribution efforts. The need is urgent: other highly contagious strains have been detected, and health care workers are worried about receiving the second dose.

Nikkema Taylor, a health worker, said she felt “so much frustration and so much anxiety, but I trusted the officials. I was like, OK, I’m a health worker. I worked every day. COVID goes crazy, but applying for the second vaccine was crazy. “

This will be a critical week for California – the CDC says the state is nearly dead last in the percentage of photos used.
