V6 Ford Raptor sold the original V8: Ford

Truck YesThe trucks are good!

There is a new one 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor, and receives a V6 as standard. This is the same business as the current generation. The difference is that the new Raptor will also receive a Raptor R model. which comes with a V8, just like the original. That asked me: Ford stopped the Raptor engine because the six-cylinder was a defect?

The hard thing here is that Ford doesn’t take any F-Series models out of F-Series sales. Every year we learn about how the F-Series is America’s “favorite truck” and that it’s in top sales, but we don’t know how many of them were. F-450 as opposed to F-250 or what kind of 150-year-old Fs everyone buys.

This is, annoyingly, a standard practice in the world of more-is-more trucks. GM does the same by crowding all Chevy Silverados together from the smallest single cab to the largest 3500 and 6500HD, as The GM Authority noted in the 2020 sales summary.

Standard practice, Yes. Annoyingly, yes. I didn’t have a good way to find out how the second generation Raptor, the one with EcoBoost V6, compared to the first generation Raptor, the one with standard V8. All you had to do was this 2013 Edmunds article saying that first generation sales are doing very well. He did not give heavy numbers, but only general percentages of Raptor sales year on year. All I had to do was get to Ford.

And Ford gave me some of what I was looking for!

Mas Levine from Ford PR he replied quickly at my request for hard or soft numbers for first and second generation Raptor sales:

We do not separate sales F-150 Raptor.

The second-generation raptor sold more than the first.

I asked if there were any percentages at hand. No dice:

No, excuse me. We do not.

I would like to have more concrete information about Raptor sales, in terms of V6 vs V8, or in terms of how big a piece that Raptor is made up of all the sales in the F series. But I know that V6 doesn’t seem to have injured Raptor.

The next generation of the third Raptor. It will have a standard V6, but there will also be a Raptor R with a V8.

It looks like the upcoming Raptor R is more of a limited edition fan service than an attempt to fix a sales image issue. Honestly, I’m glad. America deserves more than the people who count the cylinders.
