Utah reports nearly 600 new cases of COVID-19

The number of fully vaccinated Utahs is nearly 820,000 and there are three more deaths.

The number of new cases of COVID-19 reported last day in Utah rose to nearly 600 on Wednesday. The 590 new cases were the most in a single day since April 6, when 611 were reported.

The number of Utahns completely vaccinated against coronavirus has reached almost 820,000. This represents approximately 36% of eligible Utahs aged 16 and over, based on estimates by the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau on the state’s population.

But the state also reported three other deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Last day vaccine doses / total doses administered • 34,472 / 1,950,894.

Utahns fully vaccinated • 819,683.

Cases reported the other day • 590.

Deaths reported last day • Three: A man between the ages of 65 and 84 in Davis County; a woman of the same age in Iron County; and a 25- to 44-year-old woman in Utah County.

Tests reported the other day • 4,057 people were tested for the first time. A total of 15,496 people were tested.

Hospitalizations reported last day • 146. There are eight on Tuesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 58 are in intensive care units – two more than on Tuesday.

Percentage of positive tests • According to the initial state method, the rate is 14.5%. This is more than double the seven-day average of 6.2%.

The new state method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate was 3.8%, higher than the seven-day average of 3.0%.

Totals so far • 393,862 cases; 2,177 deaths; 15,981 hospitalizations; 2,505,996 people tested.
