Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) urges members of his own party to focus more than cultural wars with Democrats.
“Being more conservative than holding libs,” Cox said in an interview on the “Lewis Lewis and the News” podcast released Wednesday.
He added: “I still believe in a Republican party and a conservatism that raises everyone and is truly an opportunity for everyone, and we do not do this by removing people or destroying people’s lives or again just these. false controversies, these false choices that we continue to present to the people “.
Cox criticized GOP lawmakers for not prioritizing political issues affecting ordinary Americans, and instead focused on victory over the other side.
“I’m very worried that … we’ve lost our way, our core values as a party,” Cox said. “It seems we have just defined ourselves in opposition to whatever the left is doing.”
The U.S. deficit is one issue Republicans have begun to ignore, Cox said.
“No one has raised the deficit in the last four years,” he said, arguing that politics should be at the forefront of political conversation.
“These are the conversations we should have, and unfortunately we are not. We spend more time on Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head,” he said.
