US stocks open less before Fed minutes

Shares in the US fell on Wednesday, before the release of notes from the last meeting of decision-makers in the Federal Reserve.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 140 points, or 0.4%, shortly after the opening bell. The blue-chip index closed at a record high on Tuesday.

The S&P 500 was down 0.6% and the Nasdaq Composite was down 1.1%.

The actions were deactivated in the last days, after a rally that registered major indices with maximum records.

New data on Wednesday showed that US retail sales rose more than expected in January, driven in part by the latest round of stimulus checks and a decline in Covid-19 infections. This marked a change from three consecutive months of declining sales in the 2020 shopping season.
