Urban music legends

There are curious, surprising and incredible stories that surround certain music stars, even crazy ones. But some of them are not true, although they continue to be shared.

Even if they are repeated over and over again, lies do not become the truth. But if they are interesting, incredible or morbid enough, they can continue to be shared as if they were and penetrate the common imagination.

And the world of music, which abounds with stories and topics related to excesses and fame, is a perfect breeding ground for urban legends to proliferate and survive.

KISS BAND, Red ink and a beef tongue.

In the seventies of the last century, the band “Kiss” triumphed, not only for music, but also for aesthetics. They took to the stage around the world dressed in leather with striking metal openings and applications, platforms and faces painted in black and white, each with a motif.

Another hallmark of the band was the language of Gene Simmons, the bassist. A long, sharp tongue, which he displayed in concerts, photos and videos. Well, the legend has been circulating for years that Simmons’ tongue was that of a cow.

In those years, many accepted the version of the surgical graft. The bassist himself dismantled this bizarre theory several times.

However, this is not the only myth that haunts the Kiss group. In 1977, according to the BBC, Marvel published a comic in which the band was the protagonist, a Marvel Special Comics Super Special Kiss.

Kiss flew to New York and mixed his blood with the red ink with which the copies were to be printed. And this part is true. Everything was done in the presence of a notary.

What is false is that, by mistake, the ink had reached the publication of Sports Illustrated magazine.

MOTHER CASS AND A SANDWICH.

Cass Elliot, also known as Mama Cass, a member of The Mamas and The Papas, died in 1974 at the age of 32. At the time of his death, the rumor spread that his death was due to suffocation. Specifically, it was said that the singer died of suffocation with a piece of a ham sandwich.

This information reached the media due to a misunderstanding before the autopsy was performed. After the test, it was certified that the cause of death was a heart attack.

What is certain is that he died in the same place where the drummer of the British band The Who, Keith Moon, in 1978, was in the house of the musician and composer Harry Nilsson, in the Mayfair district of London.

DOUBLE APRIL LAVIGNE.

In 2012, a rumor began to circulate among fans of Avril Lavigne, the Canadian singer who became famous with “Complicated” or “Sk8er oxen” in the early 2000s. According to this theory, the real Lavigne committed suicide in 2003 and was replaced by an actress who looked a lot like her.

Although it seems crazy, the rumor spread like wildfire and she herself came out in denial several times.

A few years later, the blog from which the alleged montage came out acknowledged that it was a kind of experiment to show how easy it is to create and how conspiracy theories penetrate the internet, according to a British media.

MODE OF DISCHARGES AND ENVELOPES.

The story of 50% of the Depeche Mode duo and their habit of sleeping in a coffin navigates between truth and urban legend.

It seems that David Gahan was interested in vampires and, at some point in his career, it was said that his fascination with these creatures was such that he decided to sleep in a coffin.

However, this could be a misunderstanding or a distortion of reality, because his bed was not a coffin, but it is certain that it had the shape of a coffin.

MARILYN MANSON’S RENTS.

It is undeniable that the challenge and Marilyn Manson go hand in hand. From his name, which combines that of actress Marilyn Monroe with the family name of Charles Manson, the leader of the sect guilty of the murder of Sharon Tate and six others in 1969, to his appearance, Manson’s figure can be disturbing.

Over the years, various legends and myths have emerged around Manson’s controversial figure, such as the fact that he was the protagonist of the “Wonder Years”; or that heroin was injected into the eye; or that he sacrificed animals.

One of the most common is that the singer decided to undergo surgery to remove two ribs and to be able to perform blowjobs. For years, he refused to comment on this fact, but not long ago, using sarcasm, the artist showed that it was not true at all.
