Urban Meyer advised Trevor Lawrence on the Pro Day program

As the Jaguars finished No. 1 in the general selection in this year’s draft, it was concluded that the club will use this selection on defender Clemson. Trevor Lawrence, a potential generational talent. If you wanted more proof that Jacksonville will make Lawrence the first player to hear his name when the project begins on April 29, you have it.

Lawrence had surgery on his left shoulder yesterday (which he did not throw), but to show his skills before going under the knife, he organized an early pro day last Friday. And, according to John Reid of the Florida Times-Union, the new head coach of the Jaguars Urban Meyer was essential in making that day pro.

When he heard a little over a week ago that Lawrence would need surgery, Meyer said he had several phone calls with his future defender. “I made a Zoom call with him and asked him – you have three options. Nr. 1, you can wait until March 11 Pro Day – but now you are approaching August [for a recovery time], ” Meyer said. “It is delayed because it is a five-month recovery. It’s a six-month injury. Second, you can’t throw. ”

Although Lawrence didn’t really have anything to prove, he didn’t like the second option. He wanted a shop window, but agreed with Meyer that waiting until the March 11 business day – which would mean stopping his operation until after March 11 – would push his recovery too far into the summer. So, as Meyer said, “I said why don’t you grab the ball and go throw a little? I would like to send the coordinator and the coordinator of the passing game to watch. They never saw him. I saw him, so he said, “Let’s go.” ”

Lawrence was predictably brilliant on his professional day, so even though the Jags had questions about his abilities, they probably haven’t now. Along with Meyer, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and the passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer were present. Jacksonville is probably a year or two away from the playoffs, but the expectation is that if Lawrence is below center he will accelerate the team’s reconstruction quite a bit.
