The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) has extended until February 17 the deadline for new students to apply for admission to begin studies for the next academic year, which begins in August 2021, the university’s president, Dr. Jorge Haddock, reported on Tuesday.
To date, UPR has received 8,643 applications for admission, which is 2,503 more than those received last year on the same date.
“The last year was atypical for high school students and their families, as well as for the entire education system. For this reason, we have extended the admission process to support them and give them more time to meet the required requirements. Starting college at the University of Puerto Rico is the beginning of an extraordinary future and we want to make sure that despite the challenges of this historic moment, they have that great opportunity that will change their lives professionally, academically and personally, “said Haddock .
For her part, the director of the UPR Admissions Office, Ivonne Calderón, explained that the application process for admission is simple and agile, which takes place online through the upr.edu/admisiones/ portal.
“Although the process is virtual, the university has specialized staff to guide and clarify the student’s questions by e-mail and telephone. We want to support them in the application process and make sure that they start living the unique experience of studying at UPR “, said Calderón.

“From the University of Puerto Rico we continue to identify resources and opportunities so that the largest number of students in Puerto Rico and internationally have access to the excellence education that characterizes the main educational center of our island. The COVID-19 pandemic was not an obstacle to ensuring that university students enjoy the unique and extraordinary experience that UPR offers, so we invite students who are in their final year of high school to complete their admission process to the first university. and Puerto Rico Science Center, ”the academician recommended.
