UPR begins efforts to vaccinate employees in the university system

The president of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Dr. Jorge Haddock, reported on Wednesday that the central administration has initiated efforts to facilitate the voluntary vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff of the university system.

“As we have done since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, we are taking proactive steps to prevent infection among our students and employees. As a first step and following the recommendations of the health authorities, we started to identify the teaching and non-teaching staff interested in getting vaccinated, so that we can facilitate the logistics of the vaccination process for our population. I am confident that later this management, in addition to protecting health and safety, will allow us to resume courses face-to-face in the next semester which will begin in August 2021, ”Haddock explained, anticipating that campuses and units will continue performing tests that detect the virus.

In her turn, the interim dean of the Research of the UPR Medical Sciences Campus, Dr. Carmen D. Zorrilla, said that “it is important that the staff of the university community fill in the online form. This information will help us to establish a vaccination process, organized by appointment, agile and in timely coordination with the Department of Health and the National Guard in each of the units where the initiative will take place.

For more information, UPR teaching and non-teaching staff can contact the Human Resources Office in their unit, campus or the central administration of the institution, by the following e-mail: [email protected].

UPR has an enrollment of approximately 50,000 students and approximately 11,000 employees between teachers and non-teachers.
