MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – UPDATE: Upper Michigan counties reported 62 new cases and no new deaths on Saturday.
In Upper Michigan, the most recent cases, deaths, and recoveries added on Saturday are as follows (counties listed alphabetically):
- Algiers: 3 cases
- Baraga: (-14 cases due to MDHHS data entry error)
- Chippewa: 7 cases
- Delta: (-9 cases per MDHHS data entry error)
- Dickinson: (-2 cases for MDHHS data entry error)
- Gogebic: 1 case
- Houghton: 15 cases
- Iron: 1 housing
- Keweenaw: (-6 cases by error when entering MDHHS data)
- Light: 0 cases
- Mackinac: 2 cases
- Marquette: 13 cases
- Menomineus: 18 cases
- Ontonagon: 1 housing
- School crafts: 1 case
As of Saturday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m., there were a total of 13,790 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Upper Peninsula during this outbreak. Many upper Michigan health departments, including all cases (confirmed and probable) in recovery totals. This means that the recovery totals per county can be higher than the total of the cases confirmed by the TV6 and FOX UP report. This is to be expected in the future for all counties.

COVID-19 hospitalizations, of the 10 UP hospitals and health systems reports, show 58 COVID-19 patients in Upper Michigan, starting Thursday, December 17th. Of these, 15 are in the intensive care unit (ICU). This is practically even with the reports of December 14, which recorded 57 total hospitalizations with 14 patients with intensive care. These data are available through MDHHS. The hospitalization data below was not updated on the state website on December 18 or December 19. Details are below, listed alphabetically:
- Aspirus Iron River: 1 patient with zero in intensive care, 26% bed occupancy
- Aspirus Ironwood: 1 patient with 1 in intensive care, 31% bed occupancy
- Aspirus Keweenaw, Laurium: 1 patient with 1 in intensive care, 16% bed occupancy
- Aspirus Ontonagon: zero patients, 0% bed occupancy
- Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L’Anse: 3 patients with zero in intensive care, 27% bed occupancy
- Dickinson County, Iron Mountain Health Care System: 5 patients with 2 in intensive care, 47% bed occupancy
- Helen Joy Newberry Hospital: Zero patients, 6% bed occupancy
- Mackinac Straits Hospital, St. Ignatius: zero patients, 27% bed occupancy
- Munising Memorial Hospital: zero patients, 14% bed occupancy
- OSF St. Francis Hospital, Escanaba: 5 patients with 2 in intensive care, 38% bed occupancy
- Memorial Schoolcraft Hospital, Manistique: 1 patient with zero in intensive care, 50% bed occupancy
- UP Health System – Bell, Ishpeming: 4 patients with zero in intensive care, 44% bed occupancy
- UP Health System – Marquette: 24 patients with 9 in intensive care, 82% bed occupancy
- UP – Portage, Hancock Health System: 5 patients with zero in intensive care, 47% bed occupancy
- War Memorial Hospital – Sault Ste. Marie: 8 patients with zero in intensive care, 71% bed occupancy
In Michigan, 3,896 new cases were added on Saturday. Along with these cases, 187 deaths were reported. Of these deaths, 155 were identified during a Vital Records analysis. This brings the total number of cases at the state level to 458,852, and the total number of deaths to 11,461. The current state-level recoveries are 284,731. The total statewide recovery is updated every Saturday on the MDHHS website.
Of the 233,973 diagnostic test results reported to the state of Upper Michigan for the entire coronavirus pandemic, 5.72% tested positive for COVID-19 as of December 19.
