It’s over. The last undefeated in 2021 Closing Tournament was shattered on Tuesday with a surprising 2-1 victory UPNFM on Olympics, which was the only team without being defeated in the current competition of Honduras National League.
In a brilliant match between those led by Solomon Nazar, which far exceeded the idea presented by Pedro Troglio, the students managed to stop, in turn, a drought of nine games without imposing themselves against Leo.
Review minute by minute UPNFM’s victory over Olimpia
Likewise, UPNFM snatched a spectacular series of 27 undefeated matches from Olimpia on the National Stadium in Tegucigalpa.
A sleeping Olimpia, with little football and a low level of its referents, could not counter the excellent approach of the Wolves, who took advantage of the merengue defensive fragility and, even, the score could have been more voluminous.
In this way, UPNFM obtained the third triumph in the championship and remains on the third place in the center of the city, behind Olimpia and Motagua, but before Real society and Real de Minas in search of the ticket for the restoration of Clause 2021.
THE GAME
The game started very dynamically, both teams sought control of the ball to dominate the clash and, consequently, the rival.
However, it was UPNFM that led the way in terms of dangerous opportunities at the beginning of the confrontation.
In the sixth minute, the university team was about to open the scoring against Olimpia after a header from César Guillén after a cross from the right. The wolf attacker’s blow was deflected.
Olimpia is rained with criticism for demanding the suspension of the classic against Motagua
Scientists have continued their approaches to the Olympic zone, but without the clarity needed to specify their dangerous games.
However, in the 27th minute came the break point of the game with the first score of UPNFM.
Captain Ronald Montoya opened the scoring for Lobos with a header placed after a corner kick by Luis Argeñal, a shot impossible for Edrick Menjívar.
Olimpia had a chance to take the lead on Marvin Bernárdez’s dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled away as his shot went just over the bar after 37 minutes.
Shortly before the end of the first half, in the 43rd minute, Marvin Bernárdez fell in the UPNFM area; Olimpia footballers claimed a non-existent penalty, but the referee Alex Morazán did not sanction the maximum penalty.
In addition, it was believed that the commitment would change due to Olympia’s need to find equality and a final return.
Even in the 46th minute there was a good approach from Olimpia; Ezequiel Aguirre won by the base and sent a pass for the arrival of Michaell Chirinos, but the ball did not reach the destination.
However, UPNFM laid the tombstone at Olympia a minute later, at the age of 47, after a sensational and deadly reaction which ended with a great definition of the left foot of the striker César Guillén.
Los Lobos had the option to finish the result and, in fact, he defeated the national champion twice in the 58th minute. Luis Argeñal was activated and, alone in front of Edrick Menjívar, he wanted to lift the ball, but he jumped off the body of Goalkeeper Olimpia.
Pedro Troglio was forced to make a substitution as Olimpia couldn’t continue due to some rough treatment, forcing Olimpia to come in off the bench.
After 89 minutes Matías Garrido made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to UPNFM who shuffled it past the keeper.
In the extra time added by the whistle, in the 90 + 4 minute, Michaell Chirinos made the defeat of Olimpia with a direct touchdown after a brilliant qualification of Jerry Bengtson, who left the ball served to Chirinos to score the reduction goal.
Thus ended a historic triumph of UPNFM, equivalent to only three more points in the standings, but with the satisfaction of breaking the undefeated rival to win in the National League of Honduras.
