Here are the main moves that have taken place for Norwegian Cruise Line since March 2020:
Order book unaffected
In May, the Norwegian said that delays in deliveries of new construction are expected due to the effects of COVID-19 on shipyards. However, so far, none of the company’s new ships have been officially rejected.
After receiving Norwegian Encore in 2019, the company’s strategy to increase its displaced capacity saw its next new construction scheduled for delivery in 2022, with the first ship of the Leonardo project, which is one of six.
He doesn’t sell ships
Norwegian did not sell any ships outside its fleet during the pandemic.
Commenting on the subject, the Norwegian CEO of Cruise Line Holding said that his company already has a young fleet and that there are no sales in the plans.

In July, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings partnered with the Royal Caribbean Group to create increased standards for cruise health and safety. According to the company, the new protocols were planned in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and would prepare for the safe resumption of operations.
Together, the companies created a group of experts called the “Healthy Sailing Panel”.
In September, they unveiled a more than 65-page report detailing 74 good practices to protect the public health and safety of guests, crew and communities where cruise ships call.
Ships in the dry dock
While some major dry dock projects were suspended due to the pandemic, the Norwegian took advantage of the operational break to send ships to the shipyard.
At least seven ships in the fleet have been anchored in March 2020, including Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway.
The ships saw major works in France, which included major bridge and cabin arrangements, the installation of scrubbers and new propellers.
In December, the company also announced a partnership with AtmosAir Solutions to install continuous disinfection air purification systems throughout the fleet. Filters must be installed before ships can return to action.
Norwegian is currently planning to resume service in June, all crossings canceled by 31 May.
