[UPDATED 1/8] Twitch removes the PogChamp emoticon, it will replace it with a different emoticon every day

1/8 UPDATE: Following a suggestion made by Sean “Day[9]”Plott, Twitch will replace the PogChamp emoticon with a new emoticon every day.

Original story:

On Wednesday evening, January 6, Twitch updated its website, removing the popular emoticon, PogChamp, following a series of messages on the face of the emoticon, Ryan “gootecks” Gutierrez. the gootecks initially clashed in 2010 in part of a YouTube series with the personality of the fighting game community, Mike Ross, Counter Cross TV, and the name comes from a later video with the same two hosts.

Despite its popularity on the site, Twitch released the following statement along with removing the emote.

In their statement, Twitch refers to a series of tweets made by gootecks around the events that took place at the United States Chapter building on January 6th. Congress is scheduled to confirm the votes of the Electoral College for President Biden today. A woman was shot in the neck and died, to which public reference is made.

gootecks first tweeted that he would later share a graphic video of her death, simultaneously inciting violence instead and noting the alleged censorship by Twitter. He then posted a recording of the shot woman on Twitter, noting the censorship again. He claimed that the revolt “gave him life for our country”, and in both tweets he used the hashtag #MAGAMartyr.

With the invasion of the Capitol building, several explosives were found on campus.

Popular political streamer HasanAbi was broadcast throughout the day, covering the events as they took place live. He was also live at PogChamp’s removal, looking frustrated as the emoticon “transcended the person himself”, but acknowledged that he went “other-right”.

Twitch acknowledged the importance of the emote and said he would work with the community to make a replacement.

gootecks has not publicly responded to Twitch’s removal of the emote.
