Super Mario 3D World Bowser's FuryNintendo

Happy birthday to all! With 2020 finally in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look at the upcoming releases of video games in the first weeks of this new year. Over the holidays, we took a look at 30 upcoming Switch games we look forward to, but below we’ve put together the biggest game and accessories heading into retail in the first two months of 2021.

As Nintendo keeps its lid on its plans for later in the year, we’ll see its first major release in 2021 (at least the only one announced) when Super Mario 3D World make the leap from Wii U to Switch with something extra Bowser’s anger content and game changes in February. Fortunately, there are also a lot of third-party titles in the works. Overall, 2021 is shaping up to be a pretty exciting one for switch owners.

So it may be cold outside, but here are some hot little numbers to keep you warm over the winter. That’s unless you’re in the southern hemisphere, in which case cool the new versions will help you relax during the summer!

This sequel to Koei Tecmo Europe and developer Gust Studios Ryza’s workshop: eternal darkness and the secret hiding place sees Ryza return as the protagonist, the first character in the history of the long-running RPG Atelier franchise to take on the role of hero in two successive titles.

Last year we interviewed Junzo Hosoi, producer of Atelier Ryza 2 and brand manager at Gust, and we are excited to see how this latest installment compares to the previous game.

One of the Wii U ports we’ve all been waiting for, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will provide an enhanced experience that extends to the original 2013 platform with new content. There’s a double pack of amiibo Cat Mario and Cat Peach on the same day, so expect a spill of gentleness and a chance to appreciate this great title again when it finally arrives on the Switch.

The owners of Japanese switches got their hands on this hack-and-slash Dynasty fighters crossover in the form of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers in February 2020 and now a western launch with a minor name change is finally scheduled.

Although fans of Persona 5 may not be waiting, we’ve seen some great Warriors crossovers in the form of Fire Emblem Warriors and the most recent Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. This has the potential to be just as tasty a mix, so while we continue to hope that the Atlus will bring its own P5 to the Nintendo console, we’re intrigued to see what Omega Force has in store.

Bravely Default II escaped from the initial release in early 2021, but Square Enix continuation is a must-see for fans of 3DS originals or for anyone who has a taste for traditional style JRPG and turn-based combat.

If you are intrigued by what you see, there is a demo available on Switch eShop that should give you an idea of whether or not Bravely Default is the cup of tea. Check it out.
