Unknown men tie up an old man and set him on fire in the Candelaria neighborhood

A grandfather who lives on the street was burned on various parts of his body on Monday night in the Candelaria neighborhood of the capital.

According to witnesses, unknown people tied the old man in a hammock so that he could not move and set him on fire.

“Apparently they wanted to burn him alive,” people said at the scene.

Anxious neighbors, when they saw that the old man was burning, alerted the Cruz Verde authorities to be treated immediately.

Grandpa woke up with his foot burned and unable to move.

The victim, identified as Jesús Velasquez Benavides, suffered third-degree burns to his leg, back, arms and toes, according to a paramedic.

Rescuers from Cruz Verde arrived on the scene to put out the fire and help Grandpa.

Due to the burns he suffered, the homeless man was bandaged on the spot and then taken by the rescuers to the hospital.

Authorities said they had no clue who could have carried out the attack.
