Thorium Entertainment has announced that it will bring its roguelike UnderMine action-adventure to the Nintendo Switch next month.
The game has already been downloaded 600,000 times on Steam and Xbox Game Pass and puts you in the role of a “stupid peasant” who will not stop at nothing to find his fortune in a dark and dangerous mine.
It is an interesting premise and is made even more attractive by the fact that the creators of UnderMine clearly have a small debt to the classic 2D Zelda series, at least in terms of presentation.
As you can see in the trailer, some of the characters wear outfits in Link style, they have a familiar position when collecting important objects, exploding bomb walls and even have an extremely similar animation when they fall into a hole. Everything is done with the tongue firmly in the cheek, of course, and the overall presentation looks fantastic. The captivating game of prey and the roguelike elements make it stand out from the famous Nintendo series, even if it shares some technical and visual similarities.
Derek Johnson, founder of Thorium Entertainment, said this on the news:
“Ever since we released our first version with early access, the question our fans have always asked has been, ‘When is it coming? “Launching a game on a Nintendo platform is a dream come true and we look forward to new fans joining the horde in February! ”
Currently, UnderMine has a 9/10 rating on Steam, which is definitely a good omen. Our Eurogamer friends went with the Steam version and described it as “a distilled version of Zelda on the SNES … if Zelda were limited to a dungeon.” It launches on Thursday, February 11 on Switch and will cost $ 19.99.
Here is the PR:
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – January 28, 2021 – UnderMine, the secret action-adventure roguelike from developer Thorium Entertainment, enriches it with a Nintendo Switch release on Thursday, February 11, after more than 600,000 gamers enjoyed it on Steam and the Xbox Game Pass.
With a pickaxe in his hand and bravery in his heart, he rules over a mad peasant, who decides to enter a mysterious mine in search of unspeakable riches. Fight for life against the dangers that await in the dark depths. Venture through the lowest races until that ordinary man meets his fate, then send the next unhappy soul to retrieve his equipment and fall further into the caverns.
Use bombs to throw walls and stones to uncover secret passages, collect precious gold before the weak Pillars claim it, and save potential allies deep in the mine. Fight the deceptive dungeons to the end of each level, where the bosses filling the room are between the fearless miner and their target.
Be creative with each new run, desperately eliminating relics that offer abilities, potions with magical effects, treasures and other objects, hoping that the next run will go easier than the last. Make the difficult choice of accumulating gold for the subsequent descent or spending hard-earned money on useful items or useful upgrades.
Master the mines, then look for new challenges in the real roguelike Othermine, starting fresh, without any upgrade, for an almost endless playback. After five major content updates during Early Access, Thorium will continue to expand the mine’s operations, with post-release updates arriving on all platforms in the coming months.
