Now a sign has been placed at the entrance to the popular beach hotel.

The poster reads: “We have become increasingly concerned about the safety of our dedicated employees and valued customers and the city’s ability to maintain a safe environment.”

The document goes on to say that they are therefore closing their doors until next week.

“I don’t blame them for wanting to shut down,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.

Gelber has been saying for years that he is working to restore South Beach to a more family-friendly environment and says the increased crime is the result of the party atmosphere that is now synonymous with South Beach.

“We turned this area into an area of everything, it’s a kind of game here, game, play area instead of a live work area. So for me, I want to diversify there, so there are not only 105 bars open until 5 in the morning. ”

To help control the crowd and prevent similar incidents, Miami Beach police have stepped up patrols and implemented a policy of intolerance.

Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said: “In the last 5 and a half weeks, we have seen over 900 arrests here in our city. I issued more than 5,000 traffic citations. Last night alone, nearly two dozen arrests were made in our own entertainment district. ”

Fifty percent of these arrests are out-of-state, 374 in Miami-Dade, 94 in Miami Beach, 141 homeless, 78 living elsewhere in Florida.

Miami Beach Police have worked with several law enforcement agencies to help patrol the beach and help prosecute those arrested.

“It’s a dangerous situation for our community. It’s a dangerous situation for officers and that’s why it’s important to act quickly and use tactics like pepper balls to disperse crowds, “Rodriguez said.
