UGT requests a meeting with Pierluisi to talk about labor reform

The President of the General Union of Workers (UGT), Gerson Guzmán López, reported that he had requested a meeting with the chief executive to make himself available and cooperate so that there would be changes on issues that the governor had expressed displeasure, such as Labor Reform and working conditions of civil servants.

“I have read with great interest the expressions in which, in addition to expressing his dissatisfaction with labor reform and his desire to improve the working conditions and salaries of civil servants, the governor is interested in stopping the reduction of pensions and amending those laws that have taken essential rights of the working class. For this reason, we request by letter a meeting to dialogue and make ourselves available to collaborate on this issue and for all this to have the best benefit for the workers and for the reconstruction of a better country “, he explained.

The union leader expressed that the UGT has the greatest interest and openness to dialogue with the governor on these and other issues that affect the work environment of the more than 10,000 workers they represent in the public sector, state corporations and private companies.

“We put at the disposal of the governor and the country to contribute to the 60-year experience of our union, in defending the interests of the working class and the welfare of the country, to find appropriate answers to the proposals made public by the chief executive,” he said.

Guzmán López also added in his letter, to be part of the conversation, the recent decision of Judge Taylor Swain to repeal legislation that favors the country’s working class.

“It is extremely important to correct, as soon as possible, the decision of Judge Taylor Swain, which annuls the legislation approved to restore workers the right to thirty days of leave and their regular leave. Correcting this wrong action by the judge will allow workers to enjoy the time they need to take care of their health, recover properly from their work day and share quality time with their families, ”he said.

The president of the General Union of Workers did not rule out other sectors joining the dialogue proposed by his union.

“We have no doubt that the members of the Trade Union Movement, as well as other organized sectors of our society, would be interested in joining this dialogue. We hope that our request for a meeting will be considered positive and that we will be able to start this relevant and necessary conversation soon “, concluded Guzmán López.
