Ty France leaves the game after being hit by a pitch

SEATTLE – Ty France came out of the Mariners opener with a forearm contusion on Monday against the Dodgers after being hit by a 98.4 mph two-point fast ball from Dustin May during the fifth inning. X-rays were negative, sailors said.

May was struggling with his command at the time, and the two seamers – who were known for their right-wing elite – continued to bleed for France.

“You feel a little bad,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said after the 4-3 victory. “Sitting so close to the plate, you sometimes feel like it’s a broken bone or something. But you never know until I get the x-ray. So obviously very happy that it is not a broken bone. Tomorrow will be painful. We’ll have to wait and see how it feels when morning comes. Let’s hope it’s good to leave. But we have to wait and see. ”

The Seattle-designated hitter played third base for the first time this season, and when he returned to the field and pitched between halves, his pain was too severe to continue. He could be seen on ROOT Sports television saying “I can’t throw” at the Mariners’ mouth, at which point he was replaced by Sam Haggerty.

France, who have been hit four times this season, have been the sailors’ most productive batsman outside of Mitch Haniger, and the two have formed one of the most formidable 1-2 fists in the American League at the top of the line. . France entered Monday hitting .305 / .400 / .525 with three homers, 10 RBI and 172 OPS +. He went deep into Sunday’s 7-2 win over the Astros, with a season-high three RBIs.

The Mariners have been without their top producer since 2020 – center-back Kyle Lewis – all season, but the current AL Rookie of the Year is expected to be activated for Tuesday’s series finale.

Second baseman Dylan Moore took third place for France, and Haggerty took Moore’s place for two months. Every day, third baseman Kyle Seager made a scheduled start to DH on Monday, after starting on the hot corner in each of the Mariners’ first 16 games.
