Two men with parachutes jump off the roof of a Nashville hotel

Hotel security told police that two men approached the edge of the hotel’s 25th-floor rooftop bar on Friday night and jumped off it, according to an incident report by Metro Nashville police.

As the men jumped, customers at the bar started shouting and there was “massive panic,” the police report said. Witnesses looked over the edge of the building and saw the two men skydiving across the road to an adjacent parking lot. Once landed, they got into a parked car and drove away, according to the report.

A patron at the bar posted video footage of the incident on social media.
BASE jumping is an extreme sport and BASE is an acronym for build, antenna, span, and ground. Unlike parachutists who parachute from planes, BASE jumpers practice their sport from fixed points such as skyscrapers, cliffs or bridges.

Hotel security told police they thought the men were guests at the hotel and, according to the report, video of the incident was provided to police. The identities of the men are unknown.

The rooftop bar is open to both hotel guests and local customers. The hotel chain confirmed in a statement that the two men were hotel guests.

“The hotel immediately contacted local authorities and guests were subsequently evicted and banned from accessing the hotel,” the statement said. “We strongly condemn this type of reckless behavior and further questions about this situation can be directed to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.”
