Two American ships from the Middle East are fighting COVID-19 outbreaks

Two U.S. Navy ships in the Middle East are facing coronavirus outbreaks, forcing some sailors to quarantine aboard their ships, ABC News reported. Twelve crew members aboard the USS San Diego tested positive for COVID-19, as did several crew members aboard the USS Philippine Sea. Both ships docked in Bahrain to quarantine personnel with infections or suspected infections. “Healthcare professionals are conducting a detailed contact investigation to determine the source of COVID-19 on board ships and whether any other personnel could have been exposed,” Marina said in a statement. The initial source of the infections is unclear, but they come after another outbreak aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt three weeks ago.
