Twitter is exploring the “unsubscribe” feature for paying users

(Reuters) – Twitter Inc. is testing a “unsubscribe” feature that would give users a short time to withdraw a tweet before it is posted, the company confirmed on Friday.

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who discovers the unannounced features of social media by looking at site code, posted an animation on Twitter that displays a tweet with a misspelling, where a “cancel” button was available before expiration of a short timer.

A Twitter spokeswoman said the feature is being tested as part of the company’s exploration of how subscriptions could work on the platform. She said Twitter will test and iterate possible paid features over time.

Twitter said it is working on paid subscription models, which would reduce its dependence on advertising revenue, including a “super follow” feature to allow users to charge followers for access to exclusive content that will be released. this year.

CEO Jack Dorsey previously said that the site will probably never have an “edit button”, a feature that users have been looking for for a long time.

But Twitter has introduced more requests as users send tweets, such as asking them if they want to read an article before sharing it and experimenting with allowing people to review a tweet before it is published if they use a harmful language.

The company reportedly included a possible “unsubscribe” feature in a survey last year asking what features people would like to have available through a subscription model.
