Asked during an interview On Wednesday on CNBC whether Trump’s tweeting privileges could be restored if he wins the presidency again, CFO Ned Segal clarified that Trump’s ban is permanent.
“The way our policy works, when you are removed from the platform, you will be removed from the platform,” he said, “whether you are a commentator, a CFO, or a former or current audience. policies are designed to make sure people don’t incite violence, and if someone does, we have to remove them from service and our policies don’t allow people to come back. ”
The statement comes amid Trump’s impeachment process in Congress. If acquitted, Trump won’t be barred from seeking president or other federal office.
Twitter took the unprecedented step last month to ban Trump after some of Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol. At the time, Twitter said it was permanently suspend Trump “because of the risk of further incitement to violence.”
By the time of the crackdown, Twitter had already temporarily locked Trump’s account over several tweets he said contributed to an increased risk of violence.
Twitter’s decision to ban Trump came amid a string of other enforcement actions by other tech companies against his accounts, including Facebook’s decision to ban Trump from posting “ indefinitely ” and YouTube’s decision to start calling out strikes on Trump’s video channel.
