Trump vetoes annual defense spending bill on section 230, Renaming Confederate Bases

President Trump on Wednesday vetoed the annual defense spending bill, citing provisions to rename military bases that honor confederations, among other grievances. The National Defense Authorization Act passed both chambers of Congress earlier this month, with proven veto majorities. Trump also challenged the bill that does not repeal Section 230, the US legal code that prevents social media companies from being held accountable in court for what their users post. Trump, the nation’s main misinformation provider, wrote in a memorandum to the House of Representatives that the law “facilitates the spread of foreign misinformation online. “By banning the $ 741 billion bill, Trump is also canceling the money to increase troops’ salaries. Congress has until January 3 to lift the veto.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of the president’s fiercest allies, said he would not vote to overturn the veto unless Congress repealed section 230. Graham did not vote on the final passage of the bill in the Senate.
