Former US President Donald Trump once again recommended vaccinating the population against the coronavirus, pointing out that he would recommend immunizing “a lot of the people who don’t want to do it, and a lot of those people on me.”
In an interview with Fox News television on Tuesday night, Trump acknowledged that people are free to decide for themselves whether to vaccinate against COVID-19.
“We have our freedoms and we have to live by them, and I agree. But it is a great vaccine. It’s a safe vaccine and it’s something that works, ”he said.
Republican opposition to receiving the vaccine is strong. A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 42% of Republicans said they are likely or certainly not going to be immunized, compared to 17% of Democrats.
Trump has promoted vaccination before. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Feb. 28, he said, “Everyone, cradle each other.”
