The White House reported that the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, accepted the credentials with which Ambassador Sonia Guzmán’s management in the United States formally begins.
The document recognizing the former Secretary of Industry and Trade as the Dominican Republic’s envoy becomes one of the last to be signed by President Trump.
Given the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the presentation was by written procedure and the diplomat was received as part of the diplomatic corps in the United States via a personal letter from the president.
The modified ceremony allowed Ambassador Guzmán to issue a communication outlining the Dominican government’s ambitions for the current administration, including the promotion of trade and investment links, cooperation on regional security issues and the promotion of rights of Dominican citizens and of the United States.
Guzmán was appointed Ambassador of the United States by President Abinader on July 27.
