Former President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he wants his supporters to take the “amazing” COVID-19 vaccines developed during his administration.
Trump said in a Fox News interview with Maria Bartiromo that he was not happy that many Republicans say they don’t want to take the photos.
“I would recommend it and I would recommend it to many people who don’t want to get it. And a lot of those people honestly voted for me, ”Trump said.
“We have our freedoms and we have to live by them and I agree. But it’s a great vaccine, it’s a safe vaccine, and it’s something that works. “
A poll released last week by NPR, PBS and Marist found that 41 percent of Republicans do not intend to get a vaccine, compared to 34 percent of independents and 11 percent of Democrats.
President Biden, who said last week that there will be enough vaccination for all Americans to sign up for admissions in May, scoffed Monday at Trump’s possible influence on his supporters.
Biden, who rarely mentions Trump by name, said local doctors and religious leaders have a greater influence among “MAGA people.”
“I discussed it with my team and they say the thing that has more impact than anything Trump would say to the MAGA people is what the local doctor is what the local pastor says is what the local people in the community are saying.” Biden said.
Trump led federal Operation Warp Speed as president by pouring billions into coronavirus vaccine research and development and was shocked by Biden’s credit claims for speeding up distribution. The first two vaccines, from Pfizer and Moderna, were approved while Trump was president.
“I wouldn’t say the FDA loves me, but I pushed them very, very hard – harder than ever before,” Trump told Fox News.
“What I had the FDA do – this would have happened many, many years from now, if we hadn’t – if I didn’t get involved and we didn’t get involved.”
