Former President Donald Trump declined to confirm on Monday that he is about to make a comeback on social media, but said that in the meantime, he enjoys email press releases more than his former Twitter feed.
“We have a lot of options and something will happen with social media if I want it to happen,” Trump said in an interview with Greg Kelly on Newsmax.
Jason Miller, Trump’s senior adviser, told Fox News on Sunday that “I think we will see President Trump return to social media here with his own platform in about two or three months.”
But Trump, who previously posted headline-grabbing tweets 24 hours a day, insisted that Kelly really enjoyed his break from social media after Twitter, and Facebook de-platformed him after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. He said the companies were “doing him a favor.”
“I have great options because you know I probably had 200 – over 200 million people when you add it all up, and that’s a lot. Those are record settings and all of a sudden they decide it’s too many people, and so they quit, ”Trump said.
‘I’m doing, I guess and you just hinted at it, I’m doing press releases. And frankly they are more elegant than tweeting, as the phrase goes, they are really much more elegant and the word gets out. “
Trump said emailing statements “takes less time. It’s probably a better shape and everyone is waiting for it. “
‘You know, it works for me. It wouldn’t work for other people because a press release doesn’t mean much, ”Trump added.
‘But when I release – you know that when I put out a press release, you see what happens. Everyone is waiting and I think that I get better and more messages than with tweeting. And the tweeting gets you in trouble because you retweet people and you find out that the retweets weren’t that good because the person you retweet isn’t the best if you haven’t done any research. So you get some trouble with it now and then. But no, I like this better than Twitter. Actually they did us a favor, this is better. “
Trump was asked if his next foray into social media would be with the help of Peter Thiel, Paypal co-founder and early Facebook investor, who was a supporter of his 2016 campaign. He seemed to rule it out.
Well, Peter is a great guy. He’s been a supporter and he’s basically a brilliant man of, you know, Silicon Valley. And he has done a great job. But no, I have great options, ”Trump said.
