Trump destroys Biden’s plan to withdraw from Afghanistan

Former President Donald Trump condemned President Biden for exceeding the deadline for withdrawing all US troops from Afghanistan to September 11 – saying it “should remain a day of reflection and remembrance.”

Trump said in a statement on Sunday that the US “can and must” withdraw the last 2,500 troops ahead of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

“September 11 represents a very sad event and period for our country and should remain a day of reflection and remembrance in honor of those great souls we have lost,” he said. “Leaving Afghanistan is a wonderful and positive thing to do.”

Trump urged Biden to stay “as close as possible” to his own goal of getting the troops out on May 1.

“I enabled an early withdrawal by already pulling out much of our billions of dollars in equipment and, more importantly, reducing our military presence to less than 2,000 troops from the level of 16,000 there (also in Iraq, and zero troops in Syria except for the area where we KEEP THE OIL), ”he said.

Biden had previously suggested that Trump’s withdrawal date, May 1, would be difficult to meet for “ tactical reasons. ”

He announced on Wednesday his plan to withdraw all US troops by September 11, saying the US cannot continue to pour resources into an “eternal war.”

“We cannot continue the cycle of expanding or expanding our military presence in Afghanistan, hoping to create the ideal conditions for our withdrawal, pending a different outcome,” he said.

“I am now the fourth president of the United States to preside over the presence of a US force in Afghanistan. Two Republicans. Two Democrats. I will not transfer this responsibility to a fifth. “
